Indian women top York

Melissa Mossett scored 22 points, Kateri Schaaf added 21 and Melissa Catron contributed 10 as Haskell Indian Nations University’s women’s basketball team picked up a ground-breaking 68-55 victory Friday over York (Neb.) College at Coffin Complex.

“It was a big win for us,” HINU coach Phil Homeratha said. “That’s a team we’ve never beaten before, and it means we still have an outside chance to get fourth place in the league, which would allow us to go to the playoffs. It was a big win for us.”

HINU (8-14) will play host to Kansas Newman today. Tipoff is 3 p.m.

Haskell’s men also lost, 76-70, Friday.
