Candidate warns of failure of bond issue during Internet chat

The alternative to the $59 million bond issue passing might surprise some people, Lawrence school board candidate Scott Morgan said Tuesday night during an online chat.

“Plan B is not definite but it is not pretty,” Morgan said during a live online chat Tuesday night on www.ljworld.com.

“But what I do know is that programs that will be cut will shock people. We are faced with adult problems and we need to make adult decisions. All activities are at risk. Maybe schools would stay open but they won’t be the same. Class size will be difficult to protect.”

During the 30-minute chat, Morgan also fielded questions about teaching creationism in school and why anyone would even want to run for school board. (See the full text of the chat.)

Morgan is among 13 candidates running for school board and among several who have agreed to participate in live chats on www.ljworld.com before the Feb. 25 school board primary.

The others scheduled so far will be online at the following dates and times:

  • Gordon Longabach, 5:30 p.m. today.
