Unflattering photos ruin wedding

London — Catherine Zeta-Jones said Monday that a sneaky photographer spoiled her wedding to Michael Douglas and jeopardized her career by showing her in an unflattering way.

“The quality was what every bride would hate to have out there. It was cheap and tacky and everything I didn’t want,” Zeta-Jones testified in the couple’s lawsuit against Hello! magazine, which published unauthorized pictures of their reception.

Zeta-Jones, 33, and Douglas, 58, signed an exclusive $1.6 million deal with OK! magazine for pictures of their November 2000 wedding in New York.

But rival Hello! hit the streets three days earlier than OK! with its own “exclusive” photographs.

One of the Hello! pictures made her look large, she complained.

Madonna on the warpath

New York — Newsman Matt Drudge reports that the Madonna put the wraps on a music video in L.A. last week that some music-video insiders say could be the “most shocking antiwar, anti-Bush statement yet to come from show business,” according to Drudge.

In the video for the single “American Life” from the CD of the same title which is due out in April, Madonna wears military fatigues and throws grenades to an electronic beat. But Madonna spokeswoman Liz Rosenberg insists that while the video depicts “the catastrophic repercussions and horror of war … it is certainly not an anti-Bush statement.”

Aretha’s son falls under suspicion

Bloomfield Township, Mich. — One of Aretha Franklin’s sons is likely to be charged in the arson fire that destroyed the singer’s $1.8 million house last year, says her former attorney.

The attorney, Elbert Hatchett, says Franklin recently fired him because he’d advised his client not to speak to investigators, the Detroit Free Press reports.

“I’m 95 percent sure that they’re going to charge her son,” he said.

Oakland County Prosecutor David Gorcyca insists that the singer is not a suspect in the case. Franklin was in Texas when the Oct. 25 fire destroyed her 10,000-square-foot mansion, about 20 miles northwest of Detroit.

Hatchett explained that even though he believes Franklin had nothing to do with the fire, prosecutors could decide to charge her if they think she helped whoever set the fire by refusing to answer questions afterward.

Dell dude arrested on drug charge

New York — Dude! The actor who gained fame and a cult following as the slacker “Steven” in commercials for Dell computers was arrested buying a small bag of marijuana, police said.

Benjamin Curtis, a 22-year-old New York University drama student, was arraigned Monday on a misdemeanor drug possession charge.

Police said he was arrested Sunday night on the Lower East Side after officers on a drug detail spotted him buying a small bag of marijuana.
