Atlanta ? Michael Jordan’s final NBA All-Star game gave Turner Network Television the best rating for a college or pro basketball game in cable history.

Sunday night’s game was watched in 4.9 million households, according to Nielsen Media Research.

The game generated an overnight cable rating of 9.8 for TNT, which carried the NBA All-Stars for the first time.

Jordan, playing in his 14th All-Star game, scored 20 points in the West’s 155-145 double-overtime victory over the East.

The cable rating is the percentage of all homes with cable service, whether or not televisions are in use. TNT is available in about 82 percent of households in the United States. Overnight ratings measure the 55 largest TV markets in the United States, covering nearly 70 percent of the country. Each overnight rating point for cable represents 510,000 homes.

Last year’s overnight rating on NBC was 9.8, representing 6.5 million households.
