Patient Texas Tech women rout Iowa State, 70-48

? Texas Tech had a simple game plan against Iowa State: patience on offense and persistence on defense.

It worked Sunday, as the No. 7 Red Raiders beat the Cyclones, 70-48.

“On the offensive end, that’s as closely as we’ve followed our plan this year,” Texas Tech coach Marsha Sharp said. “Because we were able to do that, it made the day much easier.”

The Raiders (19-2 overall, 8-1 Big 12 Conference) got 19 points from Jia Perkins and 12 from Miklannet Tennal in defeating Iowa State (9-11, 4-5).

“Texas Tech is an outstanding team,” Iowa State coach Bill Fennelly said. “They are as good as any team we’ve played this year, and we’ve played Kansas State and Duke. They have star-quality players in (Plenette) Pierson and Perkins, and they are a great defensive team with great depth.”

The Raiders took control midway through the first half, running off 15 unanswered points to open a 29-8 cushion with 4:44 remaining.
