Calvary Temple Assembly of God

White Harvest will present live gospel music in the 10 a.m. worship service Sunday at Calvary Temple Assembly of God, 606 W. 29th St. Terrace.

The women’s ministries will have their Valentine’s Dinner meeting at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at Montana Mike’s, 1015 Iowa.

Clinton Parkway Assembly of God

Don and Gail Starnes of Wichita will be in service at 6:30 p.m. Sunday at Clinton Parkway Assembly of God, 3200 Clinton Parkway. They will be representing the Teen Challenge Ministry of Kansas.

The Refuge Youth Group Rally will be held Wednesday. Pre-rally prayer starts at 6 p.m., followed by the rally at 7 p.m. The Rev. Luke Weese will present the message on “Killer Friendships.”

Starting Feb. 16, the church will begin having two Sunday morning services. The first service will be at 8 a.m., the Sunday school hour at 9:30 a.m. and the second service at 10:30 a.m.

Corpus Christi Catholic Church

Corpus Christi Catholic Church, 6001 W. 15th St., will be host to the 2003 Ministry Fair after each Mass celebrated Feb. 15-16.

The fair is an opportunity for people of all ages to learn about the church’s different ministries.

Participants can enjoy either a chili dinner Feb. 15 or a pancake breakfast Feb. 16 while looking over the 2003 stewardship census form and the new 2003 parish directory.

Parishioners are asked to bring last year’s palm branches to the designated area in the gathering space during the month of February. They will be used for Ash Wednesday on March 5.

First Christian Church

“Before You Say I do,” a three-session course for couples considering marriage, will be held from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. March 2, 9 and 16 in Room 317 at First Christian Church, 1000 Ky.

Facilitators for the course are the Rev. Randy and Linda Beeman. Cost is $25 per couple.

Topics include: family financial planning; conflict resolution; hidden keys to communication; family — kids, in-laws and out-laws; his needs, her needs; my faith and my family.

First Church of the Nazarene

The community is invited to attend a parenting seminar, “Helping Kids to Become Genuine Disciples,” from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. today at First Church of the Nazarene, 1470 N. 1000 Road.

Seminar speaker is the Rev. Alan Thompson, a former senior pastor, youth pastor and district-wide church teen administrator.

Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. Saturday. Cost for the materials and the session is $5 per person.

First United Methodist Church

Boy Scout Sunday will be celebrated this weekend during all three worship services at First United Methodist Church, 946 Vt., with Troop No. 52, which is chartered by the church.

There will be Scout displays located around First UMC, including the new equipment trailer bought recently with financial support from the congregation.

Lawrence Interdenominational Nutrition Kitchen will hold its Sunday meal at First UMC this weekend.

All those in need are welcome to come for a meal, and all those who wish to volunteer should just show up. Please enter through the Vermont Street doors.

The United Methodist Men’s Sweetheart Gala will be held at 6:30 p.m. Feb. 15 in the fellowship hall. The singing Mayhew Family will provide entertainment, and Maceli’s Marvelous Meals will cater the event.

Tickets can be bought for $15 at the church.

Immanuel Lutheran Church & University Student Center

A “Celebration of Christian Love,” a program of fun and fellowship from the romantic to the comical, will be held at 7 p.m. Friday at Immanuel Lutheran Church & University Student Center, 15th and Iowa streets.

A dessert bar will be held in the church’s lower level after the program.

This event is open to the community.

Indian Hills Church of God

“Friend Day” will be held Sunday at Indian Hills Church of God, 601 W. 29th St. Terrace.

Activities will include a slide presentation from Alan Cox on his work with Indonesian students.

Services begin at 9:30 a.m. for Sunday school and 10:45 a.m. for the morning worship celebration.

Lawrence Second Ward

Elder Jason Fugett will speak in 9 a.m. Sunday worship services at the Lawrence Second Ward of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Fugett will serve a two-year mission for the Church in the California Sacramento Mission. He will divide his time between teaching the Gospel and performing community service.

He leaves Wednesday for California.

Fugett is the son of Cheryl Fugett, Lawrence. He is a 2001 Lawrence High School graduate and has attended Johnson County Community College.

The Lawrence Second Ward meets at 3615 W. 10th St.

Lawrence Habitat for Humanity

A celebration of the sacred music of Douglas County’s churches will be presented as Music Fest at 7 p.m. Sunday at First Baptist Church, 1330 Kasold Drive.

Music Fest, held annually since 2001, is sponsored by the Covenant Churches of Lawrence Habitat for Humanity. Eight Lawrence churches will participate in this year’s event, and the Lawrence Men’s Choral will also perform.

Music director for the event is Geoffrey Wilcken, a Lawrence composer and music director at Immanuel Lutheran Church & University Student Center, 15th and Iowa streets.

Each church participating in Music Fest will present a choral, small group or instrumental selection. A massed choir composed of the choirs of all the churches will premier a piece composed by Wilcken for the occasion.

A reception for the audience and choirs will follow the event.

There is no admission fee to attend. A freewill offering will be collected for the ministry of Lawrence Habitat for Humanity.

Mustard Seed Christian Fellowship

The Prophetic Ministry group will meet at 4 p.m. Sunday at Mustard Seed Christian Fellowship, 700 Wakarusa.

A new home group will begin at 3:30 p.m. Sunday. Call the church office, 841-5685, for details and location.

The Simply Single group will be showing a Gary Smally video from the “Loving, Lasting Relationships” series Friday. The event starts at 8 p.m. Anyone who is single and 26 or older is welcome to attend.

Plymouth Congregational Church

The children of Plymouth Congregational Church, 925 Vt., will congregate during the coffee hour Sunday in the Mayflower Room to meet with their adult valentines.

This is a great way for children to get to know the adults in the congregation, and no child will go without a valentine.

New members will meet at 8:30 a.m. for a breakfast in the Mayflower Room and then join the church during the 9:30 a.m. worship service.

St. Margaret’s Episcopal Church

St. Margaret’s Episcopal Church, 5700 W. Sixth St., will participate in “Choir Fest” at 7 p.m. Sunday at First Baptist Church, 1330 Kasold Drive.

All parishioners and members of the community are invited to attend this event, which supports Lawrence Habitat for Humanity.

Sign-ups for the women’s retreat “Nourishing Your Body and Soul” will take place after the 7:45 a.m., 9 a.m., 10:45 a.m. and 5: 30 p.m. Sunday services.

The retreat will take place Feb. 15 at the church.

Trinity Episcopal Church

The annual sale of African Team Ministries craft and jewelry items will be held after both Sunday worship services in the parish hall of Trinity Episcopal Church, 1011 Vt.

African Team Ministries is a nonprofit, multidenominational group that was founded to serve churches in East Africa.

Since 1993, its mission has focused on helping orphaned children through the Orphan Sponsorship Program, which provides funds for their education.

The craft and jewelry sale will take place Sunday and Feb. 16.

Unitarian Fellowship of Lawrence

A spiritual service will be at 9:30 a.m. Sunday at the Unitarian Fellowship of Lawrence, 1263 N. 1100 Road.

Chip Taylor, professor of ecology and evolutionary biology at Kansas University, will give a presentation, “Monarch Watch,” at 10:30 a.m.

There will be a special coffee hour at 11:30 a.m. in the Sunday school wing to honor the many contributions that founding members Paul Gilles and his wife, Helen Gilles, have made to the fellowship.

Curriculum materials, purchased with a gift from the children of Helen Gilles to commemorate her 80th birthday, will be displayed.

Recent improvements to the Sunday school area by the building and grounds committee will also be featured.

Children and teachers will serve as guides.

Veritas Christian School

Veritas Christian School invites the community to attend its annual “Making the Difference” Convocation at 7 p.m. Feb. 27 at First Baptist Church, 1330 Kasold Drive.

Keynote speaker will be Texas state representative Rick Green. David Barton’s Wall Builders will present “Our American Heritage.”

Dessert will be served, and admission is free.
