Misplaced joy

To the editor:

Two days after the Columbia disaster, I heard on the news that the militant Islamic group Hezbollah was rejoicing at America’s loss of one of our space shuttles, since it demonstrates that the United States is “not invincible.”

I would enjoy hearing President Bush respond to such ignorance by stating that America rejoices at the fact that Hezbollah, Hamas, al-Qaida, and their ilk do not have — nor will ever have — a commanding presence in space. Groups such as these, who direct their energies toward hatred of others instead of trying to make the world a better place for all people, will never advance beyond their hatred.
