To the editor:

We have an important primary election coming up on Tuesday, Feb. 25, and it’s our job to learn about the candidates — what skills and experience they bring to the office they seek, what they stand for and what they hope to accomplish. Decisions made by the school board and city commissioners will determine the future of our schools and our city.

Don’t get caught on Feb. 25 without being prepared to make your choices. The dilemma is: Shall I vote blindly or should I stay home because I don’t know about these candidates and may do more harm than good? Small turnouts mean a few who work hard have a big advantage, regardless of what they have to offer.

The League of Women Voters is sponsoring a forum Saturday at Lawrence High School, at 9 a.m. for school board candidates and at 10:45 a.m. for City Commission candidates. This is your opportunity to see all of the candidates together. Be informed and make your vote count. The candidates need our support.

With budget problems and difficult decisions ahead ask yourself, would you serve on either school board or City Commission?
