Gymnasts Shine: Lindsey Fisher and Audrey Schenewerk of Kansas School of Gymnastics finished 1-2 in the all-around at Level 9 of a gymnastics meet in Olathe. Laura Devlin earned a second place in all-around at Level 8. A third place was recorded by Jindale Suh (Level 4). Fourths went to Kami Wisdom (Level 4), Leigh Ann Krische (Level 5), Courtney Richmond (Level 6) and Allison Womack (Level 7).

  • Warrens Score: Zechariah Warren of the Lawrence Junior Wrestling Club earned a third place and brother Jacob Warren a fifth place at a youth meet last weekend in Salina.

  • LGA Hits Season High: Lawrence Gymnastics Academy’s Level 6 team hit a season high in the all-around of 106.35 and finished fifth in the Land of Oz meet. Team members and their scores are Kelcy Bowers 36.3, Arden Leland 34.5, Alexis Gonzeles 33.5, Camille Fittell 33, Kacey Clements 33, Dianna Torgerson 32.85 and Rachel Schaffer 32.83. At Level 9, LGA’s Jennifer Hornbaker earned a second place in all-around and Mallory West garnered a third. At Level 8, LGA’s Ashley Sakumura earned a second in all-around and Jeryka Lobner a third.

  • Eight Mat Golds: Eight Jayhawk Kids Wrestlers earned gold medals at the Osawatomie Novice Tournament last weekend. They are Cole Deo, Alex Hardman, Kenny Flanders, Caleb Gress, Zack Toelkes, Brandon Goodwin, Chris Coons and Ben Abernathy.

  • Wilson Wins in Vegas: Dick Wilson of Lawrence won the ages 70-74 division of the Las Vegas Half-Marathon last Sunday. Wilson’s time of 1:33:31 was only 31 seconds off the American record for a 71-year-old. Overall, Wilson was 308th out of a field of 3,700 finishers.

  • Flames Tourney Champs: Sport 2 Sport Flames sixth graders won the KC Premier MAYB tournament last weekend. Team members are Bailey Scott and Haley Epperson of Eudora, Tracie Weege and Clare Miles of Baldwin, Emily Huerter of Lecompton and Taylor Bird, Maggie Hull, Rosie Hull and Taylor Manning of Lawrence. Coaches are Troy Bird and Danny Manning.

  • Martin Invitational: Kansas School of Gymnastics will play host to the Shannon Martin Memorial Invitational on Feb. 15 at Robinson Gym on the Kansas University campus. Martin, a former KSG coach, was killed in Costa Rica while doing research as a KU student. A total of 65 competitors from six gyms are expected. For information, call Marcia Ackerman at 841-9492.

  • LJWC Golds: Four members of the Lawrence Junior Wrestling Club earned gold medals last Sunday in the Osawatomie Invitational. They were Dale Roussel, Corey Vadnais, Misty Hayes and Caleb D’Armond. Second places were earned by Sean Tubbs, Adrian Tubbs, Garrett Girard, Stephen Hodges, Carrisa Nott and Andy Jones. Thirds went to Tre Sexton, Darian Lewis, Robert Girard, Brianna Hayes and Robert Flaig.

  • Boeck Age-Group Winner: Lawrence’s Dee Boeck won the women’s ages 50-54 division of the Children’s TLC Groundhog 10K last Sunday in Kansas City, Mo. Eudora’s Paul Heitzman won the men’s 70-74 division and Thane Riffel of DeSoto captured the men’s 40-44 5K. Other Lawrence age-group placers were Jill Lohmeier, Kevin Calton and Carol McFall. Tonganoxie’s Wally Brawner was second in the men’s 60-64 10K.

  • Flames Tryouts: Sport 2 Sport Flames will be holding tryouts for eighth grade girls at 4 p.m. on Feb. 15. For information, call 843-4263.
