Future in space

To the editor:

There have been many news reports about the shuttle disaster, questioning how it happened and how we might solve the problem.

We all need to understand that world population is growing while the size of the world will remain the same. The United Nations now suggests that by 2050 about 9.3 billion people will be alive — 50 percent more than today. As countries become more crowded, we will see a need to form a world government. Representatives from all countries could meet in a world forum to draw up plans for this government.

Once this government is formed, then we could look for plans to make a world police force. At this point we could see a sensible program which we could use. It could involve our present shuttle technology and would carefully observe all activities in all countries. The shuttle now is traveling between Earth and the moon but I believe, within 50 years, we will see a machine that will continually circle the Earth, getting its power from the sun.

Perhaps this program could result in a peaceful, clean and friendly world. We did this to form the United States of America so now we could look forward to the United Countries of the World.
