Snow to continue through Thursday afternoon

Fluffy white flakes were falling in downtown Lawrence Wednesday afternoon. And that forced local weather forecasters to update their earlier prediction that the snow would start at 8 p.m.

“It’s starting a little bit earlier than we thought it would,” said Ross Janssen, 6News meteorologist. “But it’s still going to be right around an inch.”

Janssen said the light snow would continue through the night, through Thursday morning and taper off Thursday afternoon.

“It’s not going to be a big storm,” Janssen said. “The heaviest accumulations will be staying south of us.”

An Arctic front will bring colder temperatures into the area, with the low falling to 22 by early Thursday morning. The high Thursday will be 25.

Thursday night, should bring lows into the single digits, Janssen said. Wind chills Thursday night will be zero to minus 10.

The high Friday will be 24 to 25. Friday night’s temperatures will be in the low to mid teens, he said.

“Saturday, right now, I’m thinking in the middle 30s on Saturday,” Janssen said.
