Manning: Kicker ‘idiot’

Honolulu — Peyton Manning called teammate Mike Vanderjagt an “idiot kicker” Sunday at the Pro Bowl, three days after Vanderjagt apologized for making disparaging remarks about the Indianapolis Colts quarterback.

Manning made the comment during a live interview on ABC. He also claimed Vanderjagt was “liquored up” at the time of the Canadian cable TV interview earlier this week in which he said Manning should show more emotion.

Vanderjagt also criticized Colts coach Tony Dungy in the interview with The Score, a Toronto-based cable sports network.

“I’m not a real big Colts fan right now, unfortunately. I just don’t see us getting better,” Vanderjagt said during the interview.

“Coach Dungy, he’s just a mild-mannered guy. He doesn’t get too excited, he doesn’t get too down and I don’t think that works, either. … I think you need a motivator, I think you need a guy that is going to get in somebody’s face when they’re not performing well enough.”

Lions, Mariucci visit

Detroit — Detroit Lions chief executive Matt Millen held more talks over the weekend with Steve Mariucci about the team’s coaching opening.

“Matt and Steve continued to discuss the opportunity,” team spokesman Bill Keenist said. “But there’s nothing new to report beyond that.”

Millen fired former head coach Marty Mornhinweg Jan. 27, just under a month after announcing that the coach would be back for a third season.

Millen has admitted that Mariucci’s firing in San Francisco was a factor in his change of plans.

Mornhinweg was fired after Detroit finished 3-13.

Seattle receiver charged

Durham, N.C. — Seattle Seahawks wide receiver Koren Robinson was arrested this weekend after refusing to leave the street outside a packed nightclub.

Robinson, 22, was charged with failure to disperse. He was released Saturday after posting bond and is scheduled to appear in district court Feb. 17.

Police were at The Edge nightclub early Saturday to keep out patrons after the club had reached its capacity. Police said Robinson and several other people then became unruly.
