McCabe services

Services for Kathryn Wayne Maupin McCabe, 90, Lawrence, will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Lawrence Funeral Chapel. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Topeka.

Mrs. McCabe died Friday, Dec. 26, 2003, at the Cooper’s Group Care Home.

She was born Jan. 25, 1913, in Centralia, Mo., the daughter of John M. and Alice (Kalmbach) Herndon. She graduated from Hickman High School in Columbia, Mo., and received a teaching degree from the University of Missouri.

She taught school for many years in Topeka, at Capper and East Topeka junior high schools, before retiring in 1971. She was president of a parent-teacher association and active in Civic Newcomers in Topeka.

After her retirement, she lived in Naples, Fla., where she was a member of the North Naples United Methodist Church and was a 20-year volunteer as a Pink Lady for the Naples hospital. She moved to Lawrence three years ago.

She married Walter T. Maupin on June 6, 1936, in Columbia, Mo. He died Aug. 8, 1966. She married James E. McCabe on Nov. 27, 1971. He died July 12, 1992.

A grandson died in 2002.

Survivors include a son, John T. “Ted” Maupin, Naples, Fla.; a daughter, Terry Tuckwin, Lawrence; a brother, Jack Herndon, Salem, Ore.; a sister, Imogene Powers, Nashville, Tenn.; three grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Friends may call from 10 a.m. until the service hour Tuesday at the funeral home.

The family suggests memorials to the American Cancer Society, sent in care of the funeral home.
