Bottom line

The Lawrence City Commission is expected to approve a contract for a North Lawrence drainage study.

Background

The study was requested by the Lawrence-Douglas County Planning Commission last year when it drafted new floodplain development regulations, saying North Lawrence was in need of special attention. The study will map out the areas most prone to flooding, why they flood and what to do about it.
