Dallas ? Steve Alford still hasn’t beaten his former coach.

That doesn’t mean Texas Tech’s Bob Knight is satisfied with being undefeated against the best player from the last of his three national championship teams at Indiana.

“There’s never been a time that I’ve played these kids that played for me or coached with me that I haven’t wanted our kids to win,” Knight said. “I don’t like to see our guys lose, and I don’t like to see Steve lose this game.”

But Andre Emmett, Knight’s current standout player at Tech, scored 23 points — including the last six in a 10-0 first-half run that snapped an early tie — and the Red Raiders beat Iowa, 65-59, Monday night.

Alford was part of 92 of Knight’s wins at Indiana, including the 1987 national championship. They also shared an Olympic gold medal in 1984.

But as a coach, Alford is 0-3 against Knight.

“If I have to lose a game, I’d want to lose it to him,” Alford said.

Texas Tech (10-2) has won six straight games since losing 62-59 in another Dallas appearance three weeks ago at SMU. Pierre Pierce had 18 points for the Hawkeyes (6-2), who have lost their last two games.

Men

Kansas State 66,

Bethune-Cookman 52

Manhattan — Jeremiah Massey scored 17 points and Tim Ellis added 16, and Kansas State played its cleanest game ever in Bramlage Coliseum.

Kansas State committed only six personal fouls, one fewer than the previous record of seven set against Arkansas-Pine Bluff in 1996. Bramlage opened in 1988.

The Wildcats (7-1) won their seventh straight at home, but winless Bethune-Cookman (0-6) still gave them plenty of trouble.

The Wildcats put the game out of reach with a 14-0 run that sealed Bethune-Cookman’s fifth straight road loss.

Nebraska 75, Lipscomb 52

Lincoln, Neb. — Jason Douisseau scored a career-high 21 points to lead Nebraska.

The Cornhuskers (8-1) took advantage of five turnovers by Lipscomb early to go up 9-0 and was up by 22 points at halftime.

The Bisons (2-6) had 13 turnovers and allowed seven offensive rebounds to Nebraska in the first half.

Andrew Drevo added 14 points for Nebraska.

Oklahoma State 96,

Texas-Pan American 61

Stillwater, Okla. — Ivan McFarlin scored 17 points, and John Lucas added 15 to lead Oklahoma State past Texas-Pan American.

The Cowboys (7-1) shot 64 percent from the floor, outscored Texas-Pan American 50-10 in the paint and forced 20 turnovers to turn the game into a blowout.

Six Oklahoma State players scored in double figures, including Janavor Weatherspoon with 13, Tony Allen with 11 and Joey Graham and Daniel Bobik each had 10.

Baylor 69, N. Illinois 59

Laie, Hawaii — Harvey Thomas scored 30 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to lead Baylor to a win over Northern Illinois at the round-robin Surf N’ Slam-Hawaii Tournament.

Terrance Thomas added 17 points for Baylor (5-6).

Marcus Smallwood led the Huskies (4-6) with 18 points and 15 rebounds. Perry Smith and Todd Peterson each added 11 points.

Women

Baylor 79, N.C. State 63

San Juan, Puerto Rico — Sophia Young scored 24 points, including 18 in the second half, to lead Baylor in the championship game of the San Juan Shootout.

Young also had three assists and two blocks.

North Carolina State (7-4) never led in the second half.
