William D. King

Services for William D. King, 89, Lawrence, will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Plymouth Congregational Church. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery with military honors by American Legion Dorsey-Liberty Post No. 14.

Mr. King died Saturday, Dec. 20, 2003, at Brandon Woods Retirement Community.

He was born Feb. 27, 1914, in Sioux City, Iowa, the son of Claude C. and Mary (Vandenburg) King.

Mr. King graduated from Sioux City High School. He was a first lieutenant in the Navy during World War II and worked for the air traffic controller office of the Pacific fleet and as a courier in the South Pacific.

He was an accountant for Farmland Industries and was comptroller to the Cooperative Farm Chemical Assn. plant in Lawrence until he retired in 1979.

Mr. King was a member of Plymouth Congregational Church and Heart of America Tennis Assn.

He married Lillian A. Lundin on Nov. 2, 1940, in Kansas City, Mo. She died April 12, 1994.

Survivors include two sons, William D., Kansas City, Mo., and John C., Lawrence; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

The family will receive friends from noon until service time Tuesday at the church. The family suggests memorials to Meals on Wheels of Lawrence, sent in care of Warren-McElwain Mortuary.
