City seeks nominations for education award

Lawrence students, parents and teachers have until Jan. 9 to nominate an educator for the fall 2003 Mayor’s Excellence in Education Award.

The award recognizes Lawrence educators who demonstrate excellence in education, leadership and community involvement.

Nomination forms are available on the city Web site at www.lawrenceks.org or in the city manager’s office at City Hall, Sixth and Massachusetts streets.

People making a nomination should describe the educator’s involvement in community organizations and activities. Educators serving preschools, elementary schools, junior high schools or high schools are eligible.

George “Skip” Bennett, Southwest Junior High School, and Jane Imber, Quail Run School, were the most recent winners of the mayor’s award.

The awards will be presented in late January. Recipients will be recognized at Lawrence school board and Lawrence City Commission meetings.
