Stevenson services

Services for Ruth A. Stevenson, 80, Lawrence, will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Warren-McElwain Mortuary. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.

Mrs. Stevenson died Tuesday, Dec. 16, 2003, at her home.

She was born Sept. 28, 1923, in Wamego, the daughter of Glenn B. and Sara A. Buchmeier Head. She graduated from Wamego High School. She had lived in Lawrence for 45 years.

Mrs. Stevenson worked for Hercules Powder Co. and later the Sunflower Army Ammunition Plant during World War II. She and her husband co-owned Cozy Corner Grocery Store in Wellsville and Stevenson Oldsmobile Dealership. She also was a homemaker.

She was a member of American Legion Auxiliary No. 14 since 1977.

She married Dale L. Stevenson on Aug. 2, 1947, in Wellsville. He died July 27, 1999.

Survivors include two daughters, Jo Elaine Blevins and Nancy K. Baker, both of Lawrence; a brother, Kenneth Head, Paola; two sisters, Lola Sander, Seneca, and Opal Patton, Osage City; and two grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until service time Friday at the mortuary.

The family suggests memorials to Douglas County 4-H Foundation, sent in care of the mortuary.
