Calvary Temple Assembly of God

The children’s program will be presented at the 10:30 a.m. worship service Dec. 21 at Calvary Temple Assembly of God, 606 W. 29th St. Terrace. The Christmas message, “Jesus, Lord at Thy Birth,” will be delivered after the children’s program.

First Baptist Church

The community is invited to attend an evening of Christmas music with Dove Award winner Kyle Matthews at 7 p.m. Sunday in the sanctuary of First Baptist Church, 1330 Kasold Drive. Matthews will perform songs from his new CD, “Timeless Christmas Child.”

Child care will be provided, and bags of candy, fruit and peanuts will be distributed to children after the concert.

Admission is free. Matthews will also sing in the church’s Sunday morning worship services.

There will be an opportunity to meet Ramayon Awungshang, a student at Central Baptist Theological Seminary in Kansas City, Kan., and his family, from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Sunday in the Roger Williams Room. Awungshang is a scholarship student sponsored by the American Baptist Women of the Central Region. He and his family are working on building the Shalom Girl’s Hostel in India.

Immanuel Lutheran Church & University Student Center

The celebration of Advent will continue Sunday at Immanuel Lutheran Church & University Student Center, 15th and Iowa streets.

New members will be welcomed during the 8:30 a.m. and 11 a.m. worship services.

Between services, the church youth will present a Christmas program titled, “Martin and the Heavenly Tree.” The 10 a.m. program will depict an account of how the Christmas tree has become a symbol to celebrate the birth of Jesus.

Immanuel will conclude its midweek Advent series, “O Tannenbaum: How Eagerly We Await You,” at 5 p.m. Wednesday with a dinner, bible study, arts and crafts, drama and musical performances.

The evening will conclude with a 7:30 p.m. worship service.

Plymouth Congregational Church

A bell prelude at 9:15 a.m. will begin Sunday’s worship service at Plymouth Congregational Church, 925 Vt.

The Plymouth Ringers will ring a medley of Christmas carols by Leroy Anderson and additional selections.

The Chancel Choir will sing “Gloria” by Randol Bass.

The band at the contemporary Gathering of Grace worship service at 11:15 a.m. Sunday will also perform special Christmas music.

There will be a bake sale during the fellowship hour to help support the bell ringers’ program.

Fifth and sixth-graders will meet for a Christmas party at 4 p.m. today in the Mayflower Room.

St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church

The annual celebration for Our Lady of Guadalupe is 9 a.m. today. The celebration of the liturgy will be bilingual.

The Mass will be followed by festivities in the church hall with a piñata for children, Mexican hot chocolate, breads and cookies, raffles and a bazaar table.

Everyone is invited to bring a nonperishable food item for the community pantry.

Parishioners should bring their wrapped gifts for the Giving Tree donations to the altar this weekend during the presentation of gifts.

The sacraments of the anointing of the sick will be celebrated after all weekend liturgies.

Taize prayer will be at 7 p.m. Friday in the church.

Las Posadas observance will begin at 6:30 p.m. Friday. Registered participants should meet at the Keller home, 1701 Tenn. Call 749-0294 to register.

St. Margaret’s Church

Special guests Susan Nong, harp, and Pat Flor, horn, will join Diana Dyal, flute, and a Celebration Choir for the Advent Lessons & Carols at 10:45 a.m. Sunday at St. Margaret’s Episcopal Church, 5700 W. Sixth St.

A reception will follow.

The Collins family will light the Advent wreath at the 9 a.m. Sunday service, and the children will lead a special Advent song.

Youth groups are planning a special celebration after the 5:30 p.m. Sunday service.

Trinity Episcopal Church

Trinity Episcopal Church, 1011 Vt., will participate in the Christmas Farmers Market today at the Knights of Columbus hall, 2206 E. 23rd St.

Starting at 8 a.m., the Trinity table will feature hot cinnamon rolls and plum pudding for Christmas dinner.

Trinity Youth will be host to “A Night of Christmas” at 7:30 p.m. today in the parish hall. Chef Jack Low will prepare eggnog, punch and hors d’oeuvres.

The choir will entertain and lead the carol singing, and St. Nicholas will visit to bring candy and oranges.

Trinity Lutheran Church

A “Fair Trade Fair” featuring gifts from world artisans will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. today at Trinity Lutheran Church, 1245 N.H.

The consignment sale is coordinated with the Lutheran World Relief Handcraft Project and SERRV International. It provides vital income to artisans and farmers in developing countries. A portion of the sale will also benefit Lutheran World Relief and benevolences at Trinity.

A service of Lessons and Carols, led by choirs, cantors and instrumentalists will be featured at the 8:30 a.m. and 11 a.m. Sunday worship services. A children’s Christmas program, “Jesus — the Light of the World,” will be presented in the sanctuary at 5 p.m., followed by a potluck dinner in the fellowship hall.

Gifts for the Brookcreek Mitten Tree and family adoptions are due back at the church by Monday.

The 6:30 p.m. Wednesday Advent service will be Holden Evening Prayer in the chapel. It will continue a focus on hunger issues around the world. Carol singing begins at 6:15 p.m.

Unitarian Fellowship of Lawrence

A spiritual celebration, “Holistic Healing,” will be from 9:30 a.m. to 10:15 a.m. Sunday at the Unitarian Fellowship of Lawrence, 1263 N. 1100 Road.

Kathy and Rick Daugherty of Baldwin’s Three Feathers Holistic Health Center, will present a program, “Energy and Holistic Healing,” from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Sunday, followed by coffee and fellowship from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

West Side Presbyterian Church

Justin Narcomey and his family will serve as candle lighters of the Advent candle at the 11 a.m. Sunday worship service at West Side Presbyerian Church, 1204 Kasold Drive.

Candle lighting will be preceded by fellowship and a carol sing.

Caroling to shut-ins is planned from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Dec. 21, and the Christmas Eve Communion service will be at 7 p.m. Dec. 24.
