King services

Memorial services for Edwina Rose (Spielman) King, 82, Lawrence, will be at 10 a.m. Jan. 3 at First United Methodist Church. Private inurnment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.

Mrs. King died Tuesday, Dec. 9, 2003, in Lawrence.

She was born Dec. 10, 1920, southeast of old Ozawkie in Jefferson County, the daughter of Ed and Enid May (Brunton) Spielman.

She moved with her family in 1926 to Topeka, where she attended public schools and graduated from Topeka High School in 1939. She lived in Wichita for a few years before moving to Lawrence in 1945 with her husband.

Mrs. King was a Girl Scout leader for 10 years in the 1950s, and was in charge of camping at Hidden Valley its first year. She retired from the civil engineering department at Kansas University in January 1986. She was a member of KU’s Retirees’ Society, now Endacott Society.

She married Myron L. King on Dec. 6, 1941. He survives, of the home.

Other survivors include a daughter, Juanita K. Sexton, Hercules, Calif.; a son, Edward L. King, Charleston, S.C.; two sisters, Fern Archibald, Macon, Ga., and Elaine Eklund, Lawrence; two grandchildren; and two great-granddaughters.

The family suggests memorials to Douglas County Visiting Nurses Assn., Jefferson County Genealogical Society or Endacott Society’s Expression of Appreciation Fund, sent in care of Warren-McElwain Mortuary.
