Gilbert Russell Vaughn

Services for Gilbert Russell Vaughn, 79, Lawrence, will be at 1:30 p.m. today at Worden United Methodist Church. Masonic services at the church will precede burial in Worden Cemetery.

Mr. Vaughn died Thursday, Dec. 11, 2003, at his home.

He was born Jan. 16, 1924, in Modesto, Calif., the son of Clyde Raymond and Lida Mae Churchbaugh Vaughn. He moved with his family to Douglas County in 1925. He attended Willow Springs School for eight years and graduated from Baldwin High School in 1941.

Mr. Vaughn served after World War II with the U.S. Army 24th Infantry Division in Kokora, Japan. He was a licensed electrician. He was a member of Worden United Methodist Church, Lawrence Masonic Lodge No. 6 A.F. & A.M., where he received his 50-year pin this year; Dorsey-Liberty Post No. 14 of the American Legion; AARP; and both the national and local chapters of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers for more than 50 years. He was a committeeman for Boy Scout Troop 53 at First Christian Church for several years.

He married Sarah B. Wilkinson on March 20, 1949, in Parsons. She survives, of the home.

Other survivors include two sons, Michael Alan, Arlington, Texas, and Bruce Edwin, Knoxville, Tenn.

Family will receive friends from noon until service time today at the church.

The family suggests memorials to Visiting Nurses Assn. or Worden United Methodist Church Cemetery Fund, sent in care of Warren-McElwain Mortuary.
