Drew Huff

Class: Sophomore

Sport: Girls basketball

The week: Huff emerged as yet another standout in a Lawrence High lineup sprinkled with them. In her varsity debut against Overland Park Aquinas last week, Huff tied with Erin Knight as the Lions’ leading scorer with 11 points in a 59-52 loss. Against Kansas City Washington Monday, Huff was even better, compiling 15 points, five steals and four assists in a 61-34 LHS victory.

Comment: “Drew has been a great addition to our team this season,” LHS coach Kristin Mallory said. “As a sophomore, she has proven that she can not only play at the varsity level, but she can also make a huge impact.”

Kyle Flory

Baldwin

Class: Senior

Sport: Wrestling

The week: Flory became Baldwin High’s all-time winningest wrestler during the weekend, going 4-1 at 171 pounds in the East Kansas Duals to give him 112 career wins. His victory total surpassed Jay Harris, a 1987 undefeated state champion. For his career, Flory is 112-29, including a Class 4A state championship as a junior.

Comment: “Kyle has worked hard for his success,” Baldwin coach Kit Harris said. “He has not always automatically won, he has trained hard and developed his skills. He is very coachable, highly competitive, and a great leader for our team.”
