Frederick L. Thompson Jr.

? Services for Frederick L. Thompson Jr., 84, Nevada, will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada. A Masonic burial will be at noon Monday in Caldwell City Cemetery, Caldwell, Kan.

Mr. Thompson died Monday, Dec. 8, 2003, at Christian Health Care in Nevada.

He was born Sept. 15, 1919, in Blackwell, Okla., the son of Frederick L. and Ruby Frances Johnson Thompson. He was valedictorian of his high school and was an Eagle Scout. He graduated with honors with a degree in petroleum and geological engineering in 1941 from the University of Oklahoma, where he lettered in tennis, was a member of Phi Delta Theta social fraternity and of Sigma Gamma Epsilon and Tau Beta Pi academic fraternities.

Mr. Thompson served in World War II at the petroleum research division at Long Beach (Calif.) Naval Base until he was discharged in 1945. He then returned to Humble Oil and Refining Co., later Exxon, in Kilgore, Texas. He returned in 1950 to Caldwell, where he was a funeral director. He also was a funeral director in Wellington and Lawrence, Kan., before he retired in 1985. He was a member of Masonic Lodge 203 in Caldwell and First Presbyterian Church in Lawrence.

He married Ruth Virginia “Gini” Teeter on March 13, 1942, in Dallas. She survives, of the home.

Other survivors include two sons, F. L. “Rick”, Nevada, and William, Batesville, Ark.; two daughters, Margaret “Pegge” Thompson, Blue Springs, and Patricia Reimer, Lawrence; 11 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Friends may call from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. today and Friday and from 8 a.m. until service time Saturday at the funeral home, where the family will receive them from 1 p.m. until service time Saturday.
