Texas Tech women earn easy win

Trio of Cornhuskers lead Nebraska men to 68-39 victory over Delaware State

? Texas Tech validated its highest ranking in eight years with a lopsided victory over Pacific.

Jia Perkins and Chesley Dabbs each scored 18 points to lead No. 4 Texas Tech to a 100-39 victory Monday night over Pacific.

“I think we really spend some time working hard on the timing in our offense,” Tech coach Marsha Sharp said. “They understand how important the cuts and passes are in the offense. We really were unselfish tonight.”

Texas Tech last was ranked fourth in February 1995.

The Raiders (9-0) amassed 30 assists, including a season-high 13 by sophomore point guard Erin Grant, while limiting Pacific to 26 percent (15-of-58) shooting from the field.

“We’re having fun, and winning makes you have fun,” Sharp said. “We still have a lot of things we can get better at, and we as a coaching staff still have some things we want to add to our gameplan. Our players really understand just how important it is to want to get better.”

The Raiders (9-0) scored on their first seven possessions and had six players score in double figures.

Alesha Robertson and Natalie Ritchie each added 11 points, and Cisti Greenwalt and Jametra Clark scored 10 apiece.

“We played a Big 12 team earlier this season and understood how physical the play can be,” Pacific coach Craig Jackson said. “We wanted to do some things off the bat, but we had a hard time doing those things.”

Nancy Dinges scored 12 points for Pacific (0-5).

Perkins made three jumpers and two free throws in an early 14-2 run.

“We really got to run the break tonight,” Grant said. “We pressured them on defense, and we were able to turn that into some baskets. I have some great players on the floor, and that makes it easy to get them the ball.”

Tech closed the game with a 20-7 run. Greenwalt scored eight points in the outburst.

“We’re 9-0, and we’re just happy and ready to keep playing games,” Perkins said. “We have a little break coming up that will be good for us.”
