Great Bend-based soldiers mobilized

? About 160 soldiers from an Army Reserve transportation unit based in Great Bend have been ordered to active duty in support of the war on terrorism.

The 443rd Transportation Company will move to Fort Riley in mid-December for final mobilization, the military announced Monday. A farewell ceremony has been scheduled today in Great Bend.

The 443rd is a heavy equipment transport unit, which transports Abrams battle tanks and similar equipment. It is part of the 89th Regional Readiness Command, headquartered in Wichita.
