Haskell wins big

Haskell Indian Nations University’s women’s basketball team won its final game before the winter break Saturday with an 83-64 victory at St. Francis.

The Indians outrebounded St. Francis, 39-32, and had more than twice as many assists (24) as turnovers (11).

“It was probably one of the best games we’ve played this year,” HINU coach Phil Homeratha said. “We just keep getting better.”

Haskell, which won just nine games last season, improved to 5-7.

The Indians won’t practice during a winter break that stretches from Dec. 11 to Jan. 5 and won’t play again until a Jan. 12 game against Kansas Wesleyan at Salina.

“Things look pretty good for us right now,” Homeratha said. “We’ve been close in three or four games. We’re going to be more than hanging around this year.”
