Kansas State’s Koehn scores 1,000th in victory

? Laurie Koehn’s 1,000th career point wasn’t much different from the most of her others — it was a three-pointer.

Kansas State’s three-point specialist reached the milestone by going 6-of-8 from three-point range as No. 12 Kansas State beat Sacramento State, 94-31, Friday night in the first round of the Commerce Bank Wildcat Classic.

“How incredible is it to think that she’s really only had one healthy season,” head coach Deb Patterson said. “It’s unbelievable to think the impact she’s made on Kansas State basketball in such a small amount of time. Her dedication to the game reminds me of the great players: Magic and Larry Bird.”

Koehn, a junior guard, missed her first two three-point attempts and then made six straight. And she wasn’t the only one to play well. Kendra Wecker had 20 points and 16 rebounds, her 26th career double-double, as the Wildcats (4-2) won for the 11th straight time in their own tournament.

“I was real pleased defensively,” Patterson said. “We made the game more difficult for Sacramento State.”
