Washburn University announces area students who are candidates for graduation in December. The fall commencement will be at 7 p.m. Dec. 12 in Lee Arena in the Petro Allied Health Center on campus. The candidates are Cathleen Kivett and Erin Easley, Baldwin; Beverly Victoriano, Celeste Hanson-Weller, Danielle Evers, Darcy Bielefeld, Erica Gudenkauf, Erin Taylor, Erin McNary, James Moore, Jordinn Nelson, Megan Bost, Shawna Roberts and William Schwartz, Lawrence; Wade Hoss, Overbrook; Adrianne Ryel, Perry; and Amy Drake, Tonganoxie.

  • Wallace Kennedy, Topeka, will celebrate his 90th birthday with a reception from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday in the main lounge of the Presbyterian Manor in Topeka. He was born Dec. 2, 1913. He farmed most of his life in the Richland and Overbrook area. He requests no gifts, but cards may be sent to him at Presbyterian Manor, 4712 SW. Sixth Ave., Apt. 216, Topeka 66606.
  • Geoffrey Washburn, Lawrence, is a cadet in Syracuse University’s Army ROTC Stalwart Battalion. He competed in the Ranger Challenge Competition Oct. 18-19 at Fort Devens, Mass. His team placed third out of 26 teams in the competition.
  • Ryan and Genevieve Crum, Killeen, Texas, announce the birth of a daughter, Alyssa Brooke, born Nov. 1, 2003, at Darnall Hospital in Killeen, Texas.

Grandparents are Mike and Mary Higgins, Tom Crum, Don Oxley, all of Lawrence; and Glen and Cathy Bailey, Leavenworth.
