KU law student’s essay nationally recognized

A Kansas University law student has taken second place in a national essay competition.

Lauren Sturm, a third-year law student from Scotch Plains, N.J., took second place in the 2003 Law and Aging Student Essay Competition, sponsored by the American Bar Assn.’s Commission on Law and Aging and the FJC Foundation.

Her essay, “Fair Housing Issues in Continuing Care Retirement Communities: Can Residents Be Transferred Without Their Consent?” originally was written for an independent study assignment during a 2002 internship with the Department of Housing and Urban Development regional office in Kansas City, Mo.

Sturm’s essay, along with those of the first- and third-place winners, will be included in an upcoming issue of the New York City Law Review, published by the City University of New York school of law.
