More than half-inch of rain falls in Lawrence

A pair of afternoon showers Thursday brought the first significant precipitation to the area in 18 days.

The National Weather Service said 0.61 inches of rain fell at the Lawrence Municipal Airport through 10 p.m.

Elsewhere around Lawrence, Skyhawks Ken Blair reported receiving 0.53 inches of rain at his home in the 1700 block of West 19th Terrace; Bruce Stucky measured 0.36 inches with rain still falling in southeast Lawrence; and Randy Tongier reported receiving 0.75 inches at his home in the Deerfield area in northwest Lawrence.

In Stull, Skyhawk Dennis Hetrick measured 1.6 inches Thursday.

Before Thursday, the last sustained rainfall in Lawrence was Aug. 10, when a late-night storm dumped about half an inch of rain on parts of the city.
