FSHS 2nd in tennis tourney

? Four second-place finishes led to another for Free State High at the Shawnee Heights All-Doubles tennis tournament Saturday.

The Firebirds’ four doubles teams finished second, and FSHS placed second in the team race in the first competition of the season.

“I am very proud of the way we played and extremely pleased with the second-place finishes,” FSHS coach Jon Renberger said. “Salina Central is the defending 5A state champs, and they returned their entire team, so runner-up to them is outstanding. We played smart, aggressive, and handled the heat better than most.”

Rachel Koch and Andrea Koch went 3-1 at No. 1 doubles, Kristen Bushouse and Marisa Steinbach were 2-2 at No. 2, Ellie Ott and Brenna Spurgeon were 3-1 at No. 3 doubles, and Jamie McGovern and Amy Lavaveshkul were 3-1 at No. 3.
