St. Louis ? The St. Louis Cardinals have had quite enough of Jim Thome.

Thome punished St. Louis pitching again with two home runs, and the Philadelphia Phillies ended Albert Pujols’ 30-game hitting streak in a 9-4 win Friday night.

“Everybody asks me and says that I own these guys,” Thome said. “I think the problem is we think a little too much about it and talk a little too much about it.

“It’s the same from a preparation standpoint whether it’s the Cardinals or anybody else.”

Pat Burrell also homered twice for the Phillies, giving him 101 for his career. The Phillies ended a three-game losing streak by beating the Cardinals for the seventh consecutive time, rebounding from getting swept at Milwaukee.

“I won’t say we were in trouble, but we really needed this,” Thome said. “You can’t mope and you can’t dwell on what’s happened in the past, you just have to worry about what’s happening and just go forward.”

Earlier Friday, the Cardinals added pitching for the stretch run, acquiring left-hander Sterling Hitchcock from the New York Yankees for two prospects and right-hander Mike DeJean from the Milwaukee Brewers for two players to be named. Hitchcock, who was squeezed out of the Yankees’ rotation, will be a starter for the Cardinals.

Mike Matheny had two hits and two RBIs and rookie Dan Haren had a strong outing for the Cardinals, allowing two runs in six innings.

Phoenix — Carlos Zambrano lost his no-hit bid with two outs in the eighth inning on an extremely close play in pitching Chicago past Arizona. Sammy Sosa homered twice, and Curt Schilling struck out 14.

Arizona had not come close to a hit until Shea Hillenbrand topped a ball down the line in the eighth. Third baseman Aramis Ramirez charged, gloved it and made a throw that first baseman Randall Simon stretched to catch. First-base umpire Bill Miller called Hillenbrand safe. A TV replay, however, appeared to show Hillenbrand was out. Simon stood up from his crouch and leaned back in disbelief at the call and Zambrano’s knees buckled on the mound.

Giants 6, Marlins 4

San Francisco — Marquis Grissom homered to help spoil Dontrelle Willis’ homecoming, and Sidney Ponson won his first game in the NL as San Francisco defeated Florida. Andres Galarraga had three hits and drove in the go-ahead run during a five-run sixth inning as the Giants won their fourth straight after losing a season-high six games. Alex Gonzalez homered for the Marlins, who lost their fourth straight to drop 11/2 games behind the Philadelphia Phillies in the wild-card race.

Padres 5, Expos 3

San Diego — Mark Kotsay hit a two-run homer in the seventh inning as San Diego overcame a three-run deficit to top Montreal. Expos reliever Joey Eischen (1-2) walked leadoff hitter Sean Burroughs before Kotsay connected for his fifth homer of the season, a drive to right-center for a 4-3 lead. It was the third straight loss for the Expos.

Los Angeles — Eric Gagne tied a major-league record with his 43rd consecutive save this season and preserved Hideo Nomo’s fourth straight win at home as Los Angeles beat New York.

Braves 9, Rockies 3

Denver — Chipper Jones homered and drove in five runs, Greg Maddux pitched six solid innings, and Atlanta snapped a three-game losing streak with a win over Colorado. Maddux (12-10), who had lost his previous two starts, limited the Rockies to three hits and three runs, two earned. Charles Johnson hit a two-run homer for Colorado, whose winning streak ended at three games.

Reds 4, Astros 3

Houston — Juan Castro hit a tiebreaking sacrifice fly in the seventh inning as Cincinnati beat Houston and snapped Wade Miller’s six-game winning streak against the Reds. Trailing 2-1, Sean Casey singled and Ruben Mateo doubled to start the seventh inning. Dernell Stenson’s groundout tied it and Castro followed with a fly to right fielder Richard Hidalgo. Jeff Bagwell’s relay to homeplate was late and Mateo slid in with the go-ahead run. Ryan Freel hit a solo homer off Billy Wagner in the ninth.

Brewers 3, Pirates 2

Milwaukee — Wayne Franklin pitched no-hit ball into the seventh inning and Scott Podsednik hit a pair of home runs as Milwaukee beat Pittsburgh.
