Pelathe District Boy Scouts of America, had its fourth annual Scouting Extravaganza on Aug. 16 at the Westside Presbyterian Church. Participating units set up displays and games, illustrating the activities and opportunities in the Scouting program in Douglas County. Food, beverages, popcorn and snow cones were provided to attendees. More than 30 door prizes were given out during the event. Several hundred people attended from the area, despite the heat. Packs present included: 3051, 3052, 3057, 3059 and 3462. Troops 52, 53, 55 and 59 were present, as well as Venturing Crew 2052.

  • Members of Boy Scout Troop 52, chartered to First United Methodist Church, served as staff members this summer at Camp Naish. Tristan Wagner and Will Sharp were on the pool staff. Justin Deaver was on the office staff, and Peter Tuttle served on the camp store staff. Henry Reiske and Mason McCurdy were counselors in training for one week. Herb Tuttle served as a commissioner for week one of Boy Scouts and again for a Webelos session.
  • Cub Scout Pack 3051, chartered to Pinckney School, was one of the participants in the Scouting Extravaganza on Aug. 16. The Pack, which is the oldest pack in Douglas County, put on a version of a “Rain Gutter Regatta.” The following Scouts helped: Nilo Pena, Cory Church, Spencer Wilson, Graham Hosking, Dakota Zinn, Jamie Braden, William Gibson, Mason Robinson, Michael Robinson, Christopher Sloan, Johnathan Roberts, Patrick Shields, August Murphy-Beach and Cameron Reusch. They were accompanied by the following adults: Harold Aiken, Gerie Aiken, Joan Grosdidier, Donald Hosking, Nora Murphy, Scott Braden, Kim Davis-Aldridge, Carolyn Church, Ed Church, Linda Sloan, Stephen Roberts, Rod Zinn, Kim Zinn and Julie Anderson.
