Jeff and Jeanie Felmlee, Lawrence, announce the birth of a son, Chase Zachary Felmlee, born Aug. 6, 2003, at Olathe Medical Center.

He has two brothers, Terrin and Kenton.

  • Charlie and Ann Reed, Lawrence, announce the birth of a son, Ronald Charles “Chase” Reed III, born Aug. 8, 2003, at St. Francis Health Center in Topeka.

He has a brother, Aaron, 2.

Maternal grandparents are Cary and Becky Standiferd, Topeka. Paternal grandparents are Ronald and Nancy Reed, Oskaloosa. Great-grandparents are Ellen Randall, Topeka, and Helene Standiferd, Topeka.

  • Darian and Nicole Lockett, St. Andrews, Scotland, announce the birth of a son, Aidan Andrews Lockett, born Aug. 15, 2003, at home in St. Andrews, Scotland.

He has a sister, Madeleine Grace Lockett, 5, and a brother, Evan James Lockett, 3.

  • Robert and Monica Lemmons, Lawrence, announce the birth of a daughter, Chloe Danielle Lemmons, born Aug. 6, 2003, at Overland Park Regional Medical Center.

She has two brothers, Brett, 11, and Austin, 4.

Maternal grandparents are Don and Shirley Lawrence, Basehor, and the late William “Dan” McAfee. Paternal grandparents are Michael and Rose Mary Lemmons, Eudora.

  • Mark and Abbie Frank, St. Louis, announce the birth of a son, Micah Abraham Frank, born Aug. 5, 2003, at Missouri Baptist Hospital in St. Louis.

Maternal grandparents are Gloria Sterling, Lawrence, and the late Stan Sterling. Paternal grandparents are Ann Frank, St. Louis, and the late Sam Frank.

  • Erin Griffeth has officially begun her study of osteopathic medicine at the University of Health Sciences in Kansas City, Mo. Griffeth received her white coat from Dr. April Bremby, Lawrence, and Dr. Ray Jones, Baldwin, during a ceremony Aug. 14 at the Music Hall in Kansas City, Mo. A reception followed at the Hotel Muelbach. She is a 1997 Lawrence High School graduate and 2002 graduate of Kansas University. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Stephen L. Griffeth, Lawrence.
  • James Stewart, Lawrence, and his horse Renegades Tardy Joy competed against 24 entries to earn a top 10 finish in 2-year-old mares competition at the American Quarter Horse Youth Assn. World Championship Show. The event was Aug. 2-9 in Forth Worth, Texas.
  • The “Lawrence Remembers World War II” committee announces the recipients of awards given for interviews done as part of the community oral history project.

Megan Hershiser, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Craig Hershiser, interviewed Austin Turney, who graduated from Lawrence High School in 1945. Megan is a freshman at Nebraska Wesleyan University this fall.

Karen Bentley, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Terrence Bentley, spoke with Eleanor Payton on her experiences as a woman in the Marine Corps. Karen is a senior at Lawrence High School.

Luke Thompson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Todd Thompson, interviewed Donald Binns, who was a prisoner of war in the Pacific during World War II. He is a freshman at Kansas University.

The Dole Institute of Politics sponsored the awards. In addition to the awards, the students attended the dedication of the new building and the dignitaries luncheon after the ceremony. “Lawrence Remembers World War II” is a collaboration of the Dole Institute of Politics, Lawrence public schools, Haskell Indian Nations University and the Lawrence Public Library.

  • Gabriel Lewis-O’Connor, son of James Lewis and Nancy O’Connor, Lawrence, has been named to the 2002-03 dean’s list at Lawrence University, Appleton, Wis., for maintaining at least a 3.4 grade-point average. He is a 2000 graduate of Lawrence High School.
  • Mark Stover, son of Kathryn and John Stover, Lawrence, received a doctor of medicine degree in May from the school of medicine at Washington University, St. Louis. He is a 1992 graduate of Lawrence High School. He graduated in 1996 from Kansas University with a degree in chemical engineering.
  • Alex Clayton and Brenden Armstrong, both of Lawrence, attended Level 1 of the Future Astronaut Training Program July 27-Aug. 1 at the Kansas Cosmosphere and Space Center in Hutchinson. Alex is the son of Andy and Rebecca Clayton, Lawrence. Brenden is the son of David Armstrong and Jeanette Collier, Lawrence.
