Boston — Oakland Athletics left-hander Mark Mulder, who left Tuesday’s game after two innings because of what originally diagnosed as a right hip strain, flew to Arizona Wednesday to see a physical therapist.

Hudson, hit on the right hand by Toronto’s Dave Berg’s liner in his last start, was pushed back to Sunday. Rich Harden will take his place against Boston’s Pedro Martinez today.

Power outage delays Phillies-Brewers game

Milwaukee — A partial power outage at Miller Park delayed the start of the Philadelphia Phillies-Milwaukee Brewers game for 19 minutes Wednesday. Both teams were still in their dugouts when the power went down.

Brewers officials said the utility firm We Energies was working on a power line outside the ballpark when a power surge caused almost half the lights at Miller Park to go out during pregame introductions.

We Energies spokeswoman Margaret Stanfield said the lights at Miller Park dimmed because of the outage at nearby Miller Brewing Co. brewery.

“As we got the brewery back on, we had a voltage sag and the lights dimmed a bit,” she said.

Sports reporter fired for covering game off TV

Sacramento, Calif. — A veteran Sacramento Bee sports reporter was fired because he hid the fact that he did not file a story about a San Francisco Giants’ game from the ballpark where the team was playing, his editor said Wednesday.

Sports Editor Armando Acuna also said that reporter Jim Van Vliet included old, unattributed quotes from other news outlets in his story about the Giants’ Aug. 6 loss to the Pittsburgh Pirates at Pacific Bell Park.

Van Vliet watched the game on television from another location, Acuna said in an announcement that was printed on the front page of Wednesday’s sports section.

“We took this action because we value our credibility and integrity,” he said.

Acuna said Van Vliet worked at the paper for 34 years, starting as a high school correspondent.
