Parade defended
To the editor:
I can’t believe that anyone, including a “real artist,” would complain about the Jayhawks on Parade art.
Personally, my family and I have had great fun in hunting down all 30 statues this summer. One of our granddaughters spent a whole weekend with us from Kansas City just to find and take pictures of the Hawks. So what if they don’t meet your standards, it’s fun and gives us a chance to discover parts of Lawrence that maybe we wouldn’t have had a reason to do otherwise.
This is a college town; it’s supposed to be educational, serious and fun. Why are we against the merchants making a little money from a project that evidently has brought a lot of attention to Lawrence? The more people that come to this great town, the more rewards we get.
I love the artists’ renditions of the birds and am looking forward to some other ideas along this line. I would buy two if possible.
