Daughter of new LHS coach killed in recent car accident

Lawrence High cross country coach Brian “Chip” Anderson lost his daughter Monday. Chantal Anderson, 25, died in an automobile accident on U.S. Highway 40 west of Lawrence.

The accident happened the same day Anderson held his first practice as the Lions’ new cross country coach.

“On behalf of the students, faculty and staff at Lawrence High, we certainly express our greatest sympathy to coach Anderson and his family, as well as the other families affected by this,” LHS principal Steve Nilhas said. “Our thoughts are certainly with them.”

Anderson was an assistant coach under Dick Reamon last year, and took over this season when Reamon retired. Nilhas said aides Kent McDonald and Kelly Temple would assume Anderson’s duties.

“We’ll all work together,” Nilhas said.

“That’s the best thing we can do for Chip and his family, keep things running for him right now.”

The Lions’ first meet will be Sept. 6 at the Overland Park Aquinas Invitational at Johnson County Community College.
