Rochester eliminates Raiders

? Lawrence’s Raiders picked the wrong time to face the Rochester (Minn.) A’s.

One day after their 27-game win streak was snapped, Rochester’s bats responded with a 9-2 victory Saturday in the Central Plains Regional Tournament.

The Raiders fell to 0-3 and were eliminated from the tournament.

Lawrence’s David Arndt, who went 3-for-4, was impressed by Rochester starter Jay Kasner. Kasner went the distance, striking out four and allowing seven hits.

“I think the main thing that he did was he hit his spots,” Arndt said. “He was incredible spotting the ball and getting our guys to hit ground balls.”

Raiders starter Matt Lane pitched six innings, striking out five and walking 10. He allowed five runs before being relieved by Taylor Martin, who had two strikeouts and two walks in two innings.

The Raiders (39-14) scored their first run in the fifth when Tyler Blankenship scored on Martin’s double.

Lawrence scored its final run in the top of the ninth when Kyle Unruh’s grounder to second scored Aaron Madill.
