Pilot injured in Concordia crash

Bobby Warren, left, and Bill Davis, Federal Aviation Administration safety inspectors from Wichita, take photos and examine a aircraft crash site just off U.S. Highway 81 south of Concordia. The pilot, David Kadel, 54 of Randall, survived the crash and was air-lifted to Wichita for treatment of his injuries, the Kansas Highway Patrol said. No one else was in the plane. Lt. John Eichkorn said the single-engine experimental plane apparently crashed onto U.S. 81 near Concordia Municipal Airport, then slid off the highway. A tractor-trailer had to swerve to avoid the aircraft as it hit the road, but there was no collision, Eichkorn said. The Federal Aviation Administration was investigating.
