Kline services
Services for John R. Kline, 84, Lawrence, will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Park Place Christian Church in Hutchinson. Graveside services will follow visitation in Fairlawn Mausoleum, Hutchinson. Fort Riley Honor Guard and Kansas Air National Guard will conduct military honors, with a flag presentation by Maj. Gen. Greg Gardner.
Mr. Kline died Thursday, Aug. 14, 2003, at Brandon Woods Retirement Community.
He was born Feb. 16, 1919, in Hutchinson, the son of Norval N. Sr. and Maude (Lamont) Kline. He graduated from Hutchinson High School in 1936 and Kansas University in 1941. He lived in Hutchinson most of his life.
Mr. Kline served in the Navy during World War II and U.S. Naval Reserve from 1942 to 1959, retiring as a lieutenant commander. He was the retired co-owner of the former Kline Insurance Agency in Hutchinson.
He was a member of Independent Insurance Agents of Kansas, Professional Insurance Agents of Kansas, Hutchinson Insurance Board, KU Alumni Association, Phi Kappa Psi fraternity, member and president in 1970 of Hutchinson-Reno County Chamber of Commerce, and member and past post commander of American Legion Lysle Richel Post No. 68 of Hutchinson. He was one of the co-leaders to bring the NJCAA National Tournament to Hutchinson in 1949 and was co-captain of the KU basketball team in 1940. He also was vice commander of the State of Kansas American Legion, past commander of Hutchinson Naval Reserve Armory, and past Scoutmaster of Boy Scout Troop 321.
He married Aline Lucille Maureau on Oct. 6, 1943, in Miami. She survives, of the home.
Other survivors include a son, Robert J., Hutchinson; two daughters, Karleen Noller and Lori Tenpas, both of Lawrence; two brothers, William and Norval Jr., both of Hutchinson; and seven grandchildren.
A grandson died earlier.
Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday and Monday at Elliot Mortuary in Hutchinson. Family will receive friends after services in the church parlor.
