Kansas University athletic director Lew Perkins wasted little time finding a replacement for Richard Konzem.

Larry Keating, assistant commissioner of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference, was named Friday as senior associate AD — a post Konzem vacated via resignation 10 days ago.

“Larry Keating brings a tremendous amount of knowledge and experience in collegiate athletics to KU,” Perkins said.

Keating previously served as athletic director at Seton Hall University for 12 years and at Adelphi for seven years before that. He has also been an assistant basketball coach at Stonehill and Hofstra.

“His experience as an athletics director, coupled with his recent work in a conference office, makes him an invaluable asset to our program,” Perkins said.

Working out of the MAAC office in Edison, N.J., since July of 2001, Keating has been responsible for the league’s basketball and football operations. Schools in that conference are Canisius, Duquesne, Fairfield, Iona, LaSalle, Marist, Saint Peter’s, Siena and St. John’s. Only six of those schools have football programs.

At Kansas, Keating will be in charge of scheduling for football and for men’s and women’s basketball. He will also work with the department’s coaches.

Keating’s son Kerry is an assistant basketball coach at UCLA.

Also Friday, Perkins announced the hiring of Brandon Macneill as assistant AD for strategic planning and administration. Macneill, who is married to one of Perkins’ daughters, has spent the last two years as director of marketing and development at Princeton University in New Jersey.
