Premium cable’s woman of a thousand faces spends a consistently amusing hour as veteran makeup artist Ruby Romaine in “Tracey Ullman in the Trailer Tales” (7 p.m. today). Presented in a series of often raunchy flashbacks, “Tales” recounts Ruby’s brief flirtation with retirement and her painful attempts to rejoin the highly selective makeup artist’s union. Along the way, we witness Ruby’s gin-soaked retirement party, her dalliances with the union president, her battles with his ungrateful son and even glimpses back to old Hollywood, when Ruby helped an up-and-coming black actress “pass” as a blond bombshell.

• Blood, water, teeth: If it’s August, it’s time for the Discovery Channel’s “Shark Week,” the annual festival of original programming dedicated to the ancient aquatic killing machines. The festivities kick off with “Anatomy of a Shark Bite” (8 p.m. Sunday, Discovery), examining a shark behaviorist’s unfortunate run-in with a bull shark.
