Kathryn C. Batten

? Services for Kathryn Clark Batten, 92, Hilton Head, will be at 11 a.m. Friday at First Presbyterian Church of Hilton Head Island. A reception will follow at the church.

Mrs. Clark died Wednesday, Aug. 6, 2003, at Hilton Head Regional Medical Center.

She was born Jan. 5, 1911, in Gettysburg, Ohio, the daughter of Zachariah and Daisy Myers Clark. She graduated from Ohio State University, where she was president of the YWCA and a member of Kappa Alpha Theta.

Mrs. Clark was an English teacher in Lansing, Mich. She then lived for 50 years in Manhasset and Mill Neck, N.Y., where she was chairman of the Manhasset High School Parent Teacher Assn., a trustee of the Manhasset Public Library, chairwoman of the Women’s Club of the Congregational Church of Manhasset and an officer of P.E.O. Chapter AW. She moved in 1993 to Hilton Head, where she and her husband helped found The Cypress, a retirement center, and contributed to the Batten Family Boys and Girls Club of Hilton Head.

She was married to William M. Batten for 63 years before he died in January 1999.

Survivors include a daughter, Jane B. Wild, Lawrence, Kan., and Hilton Head Island; a son, David Batten, New York City; and three grandchildren.
