The Lawrence 299ers Duplicate Bridge Club’s July 30 game was stratified, used the Mitchell movement and was directed by Don Brennaman.

The North-South winners were Eldon Herd and Glenna Herd, placing first in A. Harry Talley and Don Daugherty placed second in A and first in B. Chuck Hedges and Don Bush placed third in A. Everard Hughes and Kriz Hughes came in second in B.

The East-West winners were Don Brennaman and Dan Osman, placing first in A. Frances Vogel and Dorothy Arth placed second in A. Betty Spalsbury and Ilse Steinhardt tied for third in A and were first in B. Helen Huffman and Robert Huffman tied for third in A. Julie Ward and Ann Thompson placed first in C.

The North-South winners were Phillis Brownlee and Yvonne Hedges, placing first in A and B. Eldon Herd and Glenna Herd placed second in A and B. Sally Taylor and Virginia Seaver placed third in A, followed by Judy Hildreth and Diane Childs. Don Daugherty and Harry Talley placed fifth in A, third in B and first in C. Don Brennaman and Dan Osman placed second in C.

The East-West winners were Paul Heitzman and Dave Piro, placing first in A. Shirley Reese and Betty Collier placed second in A and first in B. Lois Clark and Julia Brooks placed third in A, followed by Wanda Durbin and Jean Otney. Artie Shaw and Harriett Olson placed second in B and first in C. Helen Huffman and Robert Huffman placed third in B and second in C.

  • The Lawrence Duplicate Bridge Club’s Monday game was stratified, used the Mitchell movement and was directed by Jerry Sloan.

The North-South winners were Larry Bodle and Kent McCullough, followed by Steve Phelps and Clyde Romer with second in A and first in B. Ed Howard and John Fittell placed third in A, and Terry Tolar and Lynn Hui placed second in B. Cathy Blumenfeld and Michael Blumenfeld placed second in B and first in C. Carl Mibeck and Jack Mibeck placed third in B.

The East-West winners were Donna Johnson and Paul Heitzman, followed by David Rhea and Christie Thomas. Chuck Hedges and Yvonne Hedges placed third in A and first in B. Julie Brooks and Shirlie Vaughn placed fourth in A, and Alice Leitch and Frances Vogel placed first in C.

  • The North-East Kansas Unit of duplicate bridge had its annual election and championship game Aug. 2. The game was a six-session stratified Swiss Team game with lunch served at the midway point. Fifteen teams competed, and the game was directed by John Glagola.

The first-place team in the A strata was John Hickey, Patt Radford, Chuck Hedges and Yvonne Hedges. Second place in the A strata was Donna Johnson, James Masilamani, Paul Heitzman and Virginia Seaver. The team of Ilse Steinhardt, Bebe Huxtable, Bobbie Figgins and Marti Hartman placed third in A, first in B and C. Anna DeThomas, Mary Bauer, Dixie Nicholson and Virginia Overley placed fourth in A, second in B and C. Sally Taylor, Shirlie Vaughn, Suzanne Wassmer and Wanda Durbin placed fifth in A. Vern Gregg, Don Bush, Helen Huffman and Robert Huffman placed third in B and C. Madelyn Jenks, Mona Bell, Phyllis Brownlee and Virginia Eddy placed fourth in B.
