Police are investigating a possible attempted sexual assault Tuesday morning at Naismith Valley Park, 1400 W. 27th St., where there have been at least three prior attempted or completed sexual assaults reported since July 2002.
A woman in her mid-20s was riding her bicycle on a path shortly before 8:30 a.m. when a man approached her and tried to knock her off of her bicycle, she told police.
Sgt. Mike Pattrick, a spokesman for the Lawrence Police department, said the description of the man -- a white male in his late 40s with a long, black pony tail -- is similar to the description in at least one of the other reported assaults at the park.
In June, a man persuaded a 10-year-old girl to follow him into a secluded area of the park and tried to coax the girl into exposing herself, police said. She was able to run away.
In May, a man attempted to molest a 10-year-old boy riding his bike through the park, and last July an 8-year-old girl was sexually assaulted by a man who lured her off the trail, police said.
