Dorothea Irene James

Memorial services for Dorothea Irene James, 74, Las Vegas, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Trinity Lutheran Church.

Mrs. James died Thursday, April 10, 2003, at North Las Vegas Care Facility. She was cremated.

She was born May 3, 1928, in Worden, the daughter of Henry and Emma (Alt) Hornberger. She moved to Lawrence in 1932 and lived on a farm north of the airport. She graduated from Liberty Memorial High School in 1946 and from Weaver School of Real Estate in the 1960s. She moved to Chicago in 1972.

Mrs. James worked for Kansas Power and Light for about 15 years and later at Paine Webber and Cargill, both in Chicago. She retired in 1995 and moved to Las Vegas, where she lived with her daughter until she moved to the care facility in September 2002.

She married Vernon Dale James on Aug. 17, 1947, in Lawrence. He died Jan. 6, 1991.

Survivors include a daughter, Janet James, Las Vegas; a brother, Fremont Hornberger, Lawrence; three grandsons and two great-grandchildren.

The family suggests memorials to the church.
