Museum Day delights visitors with activities

The new jungle lab at the Kansas University Museum of Natural History is an interactive discovery laboratory that will be open to the public for the next nine months or more, said Dena Podrebarac, museum educator.

In addition to the jungle lab, the museum offered children six activities that demonstrated cooperation in the animal world.

Schools: School nurses honored at public reception

The role public school nurses make in the lives of children will be celebrated May 7 in Lawrence.

In conjunction with National School Nurse Day, current and former school nurses will celebrate the profession’s 100-year history at a 7 p.m. reception in district headquarters, 110 McDonald Drive.

The event is open to the public.

Katy Buck, nursing services facilitator for Lawrence public schools, said community members who support nurses would be recognized at the reception.

Retired school nurse Martha Skeet will offer an oral history of school nursing in Lawrence.

The district hired its first school nurse in 1916. There are now 14 school nurses serving Lawrence schools.

Kansas University: Workshop explores Latin American holidays

Latin American folk and popular holidays will be the topic of a workshop Saturday at Kansas University.

The workshop, sponsored by the Center for Latin American Studies, runs from 8:30 a.m. to noon in Room 318 of Bailey Hall.
