Calvary Temple Assembly of God

The Easter egg hunt sponsored by Calvary Temple Assembly of God, 606 W. 29th St. Terrace, was postponed due to the weather.

It will be held Sunday, after the morning worship service for children ages up through 12.

Paula Mickley, a missionary, will speak at the 6:30 p.m. Sunday service. She is with the Health Ministries of the Assemblies of God in Zambia. She is from Lawrence.

Corpus Christi Catholic Church

Morning adoration will be held from 7:30 a.m. to noon Tuesday at Corpus Christi Catholic Church, 6001 W. 15th St.

A Mass will be celebrated at 3 p.m. Tuesday at Brandon Woods Retirement Center.

Holy Hour Adoration will be held from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. Tuesday at the church.

First Baptist Church

The 10:45 a.m. Sunday worship service will be led by the children of First Baptist Church, 1330 Kasold Drive.

The children will be ushering, singing, ringing bells and leading the worship in other ways. A skit will be performed with puppets, and the Rev. Marcus McFaul will preach, “Childlike faith.”

The children’s vocal choir will sing “Children’s Praise,” accompanied by Aaron Trent, flautist; Clay Weinaug, cellist; and Rebecca Weinaug, violinist. The choir also will sing Natalie Sleeth’s “Go Now in Peace.”

The children’s bell choir will ring “The Church’s One Foundation” by Kevin McChesney, and a sixth-grade bell ensemble will ring “Be Thou My Vision” by Douglas Wagner.

The preschool and first- and second-grade Sunday school classes will sing and ring “The B-I-B-L-E” and “Jesus Loves Me, This I Know.”

First Church of the Nazarene

The jazz band from MidAmerica Nazarene University will be in concert at 6 p.m. Sunday at First Church of the Nazarene, 1470 N. 1000 Road.

Several area churches are sponsoring this event. A freewill offering will be taken to help fund the band’s trip to Russia this summer.

The Rev. Donald Dunn will continue his series, “What Will I Be in 2003?” at the 10:15 a.m. Sunday service.

First United Methodist Church

The Rev. Ira DeSpain, chaplain of Baker University, will be the featured speaker for the United Methodist Men’s meeting Wednesday at First United Methodist Church, 946 Vt.

The evening meal begins at 6:30 p.m., and the program begins at 7 p.m. in Brady Hall.

Mother to Mother of Douglas County

Mother to Mother of Douglas County, a ministry supported by a group of area churches, has launched its annual fund-raiser, “A Tribute to Mothers.”

The tribute honors mothers by publishing their names in the Lawrence Journal-World on Mother’s Day.

Tributes can be purchased following Sunday worship services at area churches, or by calling the ministry office at 841-0838.

Deadline for all purchases in May 5.

Plymouth Congregational Church

Ninth-graders at Plymouth Congregational Church, 925 Vt., will be confirmed during the 9:30 a.m. Sunday worship service.

The young people will confirm their faith and become full members of the church. The class will also be sharing excerpts from their statements of faith.

Before the service, breakfast will be served at 8 a.m. in the Mayflower Room for the confirmands and their families.

The Plymouth Church Bell Choirs and Children’s Choirs will present a concert at 7 p.m. Sunday.

St. Margaret’s Episcopal Church

St. Margaret’s Episcopal Church, 5700 W. Sixth St., will celebrate “Young Gardeners” at the 9 a.m., 10:45 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. worship services Sunday.

The Children’s Garden will be blessed after each of these services.

The theme of the day is “He Came to Replace Rules with Relationships.”

Trinity Episcopal Church

Confirmation for the Northeast Convocation will be held at 2:30 p.m. today at Trinity Episcopal Church, 1011 Vt.

The Rev. William Smalley, Bishop of the Diocese of Kansas, will preach and celebrate. A reception in the parish hall will follow the service.

Palden Gyatso, a Tibetan monk, will speak about his 33 years of imprisonment by the Chinese government at 6 p.m. today. His lecture will be followed by a book singing and reception.

The youth of Trinity Episcopal will sponsor a party celebrating the confirmands of the church at 6 p.m. Sunday on the church lawn.

Grilled steak kabobs, chicken, side dishes and dessert will be served, and disc jockey John Ellis will provide the music.

Tickets cost $7 for adults and $3 for children.

Trinity Lutheran Church

A program on the “Lost Boys of the Sudan” will be featured at the annual spring banquet of the Women of Trinity Lutheran Church at 6:30 p.m. Thursday in the church’s fellowship hall, 1245 N.H.

One of the young men, Joseph Rufino, who has recently been relocated to the Kansas City area, will speak at the event.

Rufino wandered with other boys from his home in southern Sudan for 15 years until he was given the opportunity to come to the United States. He has been in this country less than two years.

“60 Minutes II” recently aired a feature on Rufino and the other young men.

Reservations are needed for the dinner part of the evening. The program featuring Rufino begins at 7:30 p.m.

Unitarian Fellowship of Lawrence

A spiritual celebration will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 10:15 a.m. Sunday at the Unitarian Fellowship of Lawrence, 1263 N. 1100 Road.

Steve Jansen will present a program, “The Roots of Unitarianism in Lawrence,” from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

Coffee and fellowship will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Unity Church of Lawrence

The community is welcome to attend the dedication of the Peace Pole and the Peace Pole Garden after the second service Sunday (approximately 12:30 p.m.) at Unity Church of Lawrence, 900 Madeline Lane.

Music, stories and words of wisdom will be shared. A tree will be planted and weapons of violence buried.

The ceremony will last about 20 minutes, and children are encouraged to attend.

The church’s 8:30 a.m. and 11 a.m. Sunday services will begin a month-long theme of “Total Prosperity.”

At 9:45 a.m. Sunday, an eight-week video series on Brian Swimme’s “The Earth’s Imagination” will begin.

Paul Mirecki, professor of religious studies at Kansas University, will lecture on “The Resurrection Story of Jesus” at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Wednesday Night Live will feature the Unity Church of Lawrence Band, a meditation and message.

Vinland United Methodist Church

The community is invited to attend Vinland United Methodist Church’s “Music on the Lawn and BBQ” event from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. today.

Participants are encouraged to bring blankets and lawn chairs for an afternoon of live, outdoor music and a cookout.

The church is located just off N. 700 Road, southeast of Lawrence. A freewill donation will be accepted to help put a new kitchen floor in the church.

West Side Presbyterian Church

Pastor Emeritus Robert Freitag will fill the pulpit at the 11 a.m. Sunday worship service at West Side Presbyterian Church, 1024 Kasold Drive.

“Georgie Mouse,” a favorite with children and adults, will make an appearance for the Children’s Talk.

Interim pastor Jay Gideon will be out of town through Tuesday.
