George E. Swartzel
Rolla, Mo. ? Services for George E. Swartzel, 64, Rolla, Mo., were April 19 at James and Gahr Mortuary Rolla Chapel. Burial was in Fort Leavenworth National Cemetery, Leavenworth, Kan.
Mr. Swartzel died Wednesday, April 16, 2003, in Rolla.
He was born Dec. 11, 1938, in Muskogee, Okla., the son of Erle and Ethel (Detlor) Swartzel. He lived from 1945 to 1959 in Topeka, Kan.
Mr. Swartzel joined the U.S. Army in 1959. His 24 years of military service included two tours of Vietnam. Among his military honors are the Bronze Star and Meritorious Service Medal. He was also an Eagle Scout.
He married Maria Greschner on May 5, 1961. She survives of the home.
Other survivors include a daughter, Heidi Hinck, Cedarburg, Wis.; two brothers, Jim, Lawrence, Kan., and Steve, Viola, Ark.; and three grandchildren.
A son, Bill, and daughter, Michaele, died earlier.
The family suggests memorials to Phelps County Regional Medical Center oncology floor or Bond Cancer Clinic in Rolla, sent in care of the mortuary, 1601 Highway 72 E, Rolla, MO 65540.
