Ehrhardt services

Services for Vernell D. Ehrhardt, 92, Lawrence, will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Warren-McElwain Mortuary. Burial will be in New St. Marcus Cemetery in St. Louis.

Mrs. Ehrhardt died Monday, April 21, 2003, at Eudora Nursing Center.

She was born March 10, 1911, in St. Louis, the daughter of William A. and Minna Wilhelmina (Mansfield) Diefenbronn. She attended St. Louis schools and received her master’s degree from Northwestern University in Evanston, Ill. She moved to Lawrence in 1994 from Webster Groves, Mo.

Mrs. Ehrhardt was a 2nd lieutenant in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II. She was involved in a program that taught field officers how to teach their command. She taught fourth grade and music for St. Louis County schools until she retired in 1976. She was a member of Plymouth Congregational Church in Lawrence.

She married Carl Benjamin Ehrhardt on Jan. 24, 1945, in St. Louis. He died March 9, 1984.

Survivors include a daughter, Carol Leffler, Lawrence; a sister, Ruth Stout, Crestwood, Mo.; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. Thursday at the mortuary. Later services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Hoffmeister Colonial Chapel in St. Louis, where family will receive friends from noon to 1 p.m. Friday.

The family suggests memorials to the Kansas or Missouri Chapters of Nature Conservancy or Girl Scouts of America, sent in care of the mortuary.
